Abilympics Sabah 2018

Abilympics (coined from the phrase "Olympics of Abilities"), a skills competition for persons with disabilities (PWDs) have helped to overturn traditional views in regard to the skills, potentials and abilities of PWDs, resulting in increased employment opportunities and vocational stability. The concept of International Abilympics (IA) competition is similar to 'Skills Competition' which is coordinated by the Ministry of Human Resources through the Department of Skills Development, whereby qualified non-disabled representatives will be selected to compete at the international level (WorldSkills competition). The first IA was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1981 to commemorate the United Nations' International Year of Disabled Persons. It was then held on a regular basis every four years.   CitaCita Outreach Program is a pilot project (supported by the state government for a period of one year) under Persatuan C.H.I.L.D. Sabah that intends to help change the lives of children with disabilities (particularly children who have Autism) to undergo one-to-one therapies at an affordable fee. This will in turn help relief lower-income families who cannot cope with high therapy fees to access the service. ADIC 2018

C.H.I.L.D. Sabah attended the Arts & Disability International Conference (ADIC) in Singapore from 22 to 23 March 2018. The inaugural Conference focuses on innovative approaches in artistic practices, inclusive community engagement and bridging multi-sectorial partnerships. It also places the spotlight on persons with disabilities in leadership who play a critical role in shaping the arts into an inclusive platform. Innovation and leadership in enabling greater inclusion and diversity in the arts is the core underlying theme at the ADIC. Jointly organised by Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA) and the National Arts Council (NAC), ADIC 2018 aims to provide insights on innovative ways to increase arts. accessibility and facilitate sharing of best practices.
